Eat Play Grow
EAT PLAY GROW is a non-profit service for elementary schools, which combines food education and experiential learning by connecting a circular food community: seeking to make kids the protagonist of their food exploration journey.
Primary school canteens are designed by adults for adults both as an experience and as a space. Kids in elementary school are negatively affected by this design and as a result, they have low food exposure and low food knowledge. The canteen has the opportunity to be an enjoyable and educational space for kids.
Through a personalised food education programme, EAT PLAY GROW connects food educators, farmers, food artisans, schools and canteens. Through different toolkits, and the redesign of the canteen as an informal learning space, kids can approach their canteen and learning feeling heard and therefore develop a healthy relationship with food and education.

The project was done during Emily’s master degree of Food Design and Innovation in Milan, Italy with her colleagues Costanza Guala, LeAnna Bussey, Natcha Suvansinpan and Yuanfang Tang, with the assistance of Chiara Francesca Albanesi from oblo design in 2022.
Later in 2023, the team participated in FORK x DESIGN SCHOOLS CHALLENGE 22 organised by The Food Design Organization, presenting the project with 13 other food teams around the world.
